We are big fans of Missy here at LCM, after seeing her first two UK gigs in 2004/5 before the UK release of her excellent debut album 'The Sound Of White'. It's always wonderful when Missy releases her music and we are in for a treat as she has a brand new album 'Solastalgia' due on May 4th. If you are wondering what 'Solastalgia' means it describes a form of psychic or existential distress caused by environmental change. In many cases this is in reference to global climate change, but more localized events such as volcanic eruptions, drought or destructive mining techniques can cause solastalgia as well.

Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins has enjoyed phenomenal success with her irresistible melodies and ‘arrow through the heart’ lyrics, delivered by a striking voice that clearly means it. After touring the globe with her undeniable songs and unforgettable live performances, Missy’s highly acclaimed albums ‘The Sound Of White’ (ARIA Album Of The Year featuring the hit singles ‘Scar’ and ’The Special Two’), ‘On A Clear Night’ (featuring North American top 20 airplay hit ‘Where I Stood’ and ‘Steer’) and ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ (#1 album featuring ‘Everyone’s Waiting’ and ‘Hello Hello’) have sold over two millions albums and singles globally.

After seven years of touring and recording, Missy quietly took a break from music in 2009 to pursue other interests including a course in Indigenous Studies, as well as making her acting debut in Australian film ‘Bran Nue Dae’.

In 2011, Missy’s love of music lead her back to the studio when she set up in Nashville to record ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’, Missy’s third #1 studio album in her homeland which, despite the five year wait, became the most acclaimed work of Missy’s extraordinary career. It spent over three months in the Australian top 10 after its mid-2012 release and became Missy’s first top 100 album on the US Billboard 200.

In September 2014, Missy released  her fourth studio album OZ to rave reviews – an eclectic mix of Aussie cover versions also accompanied by a quirky book of related essays. In recent years, Missy has released two standalone singles – including ‘Oh Canada’ (2016), which was inspired by the tragic images of an infant Syrian refugee named Alan Kurdi, and ‘Torchlight’ (2017), a powerful, emotive ballad written for Australian film ‘Don’t Tell’. ‘Torchlight’ won Best Original Song Composed for the Screen at the 2017 Screen Music Awards.

Missy has also been hard at work on a number of live projects. These include a series of sold-out shows on her first North American tour in four years and a sold-out Orchestral Concert Series playing to over 25,000 fans across Australia in 2016, as well as her musical theatre debut, starring as Southern belle Bonnie-Mae Stackhouse in a brand new production of celebrated Australian musical ‘Miracle City’ at the Sydney Opera House.

In early 2018, Missy announced her long awaited fifth studio album, ‘Solastalgia’, alongside the imminent release of first single ‘Futon Couch’. Missy was also confirmed as the main support on Ed Sheeran’s ÷ Tour – the largest tour in Australian history with nearly 1 million tickets sold nationwide.
