Midnight Skyracer are a new, Anglo-Irish all-female 5 piece playing hard driving traditional and modern classics, lesser known songs and a few originals. Featuring an all-star lineup of some of the UK’s top instrumentalists and singers (Tabitha Agnew (Banjo); Charlotte Carrivick (Guitar), Laura Carrivick (Fiddle & Dobro); Leanne Thorose (Mandolin) and Eleanor Wilkie (Bass)) , the band takes inspiration from the likes of other great female artists such as Rhonda Vincent and Alison Krauss. We think that they are a real young supergroup of talent and have a very bright future ahead of them.
Luke Jackson organised a show in his hometown of Canterbury and decided he would record the whole thing and release these recordings as a CD. The night included a solo, duo & trio sets showing the different sounds and contrasts of Luke's music and live performances. He took tracks from all his previous albums, breathing new life into old songs, others he has been performing every night for the last few years. It also includes a few tracks, that although may have been performed, never made it onto any records.
Southern Wind was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with the same team responsible for his acclaimed Into the Sea – producer Neilson Hubbard, award winning guitarist (and long time collaborator) Will Kimbrough and some great US musicians.
Dean’s music has been described as Celtic Americana with a rocky pop edge, and draws as much from his Scottish roots, especially his home town of Leith (referenced and loved by the Proclaimers) as from his US heroes. The emotional honesty in his songs shines through as he sings about people and places, love and regrets, drawing favourable comparisons with the likes of Springsteen. A gritty yet lyrical Scottish sensibility, delivered with a searingly soulful voice.
Dean’s solo career has seen him tour far and wide, including in Europe, USA and Australia. Dean is also highly regarded among other musicians and has played shows and toured
with Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Joan As Policewoman, Eddi Reader, John Hiatt and Nanci Griffith, to name but a few.
In his early career Dean was the front-man of the much loved and lauded Americana band
The Felsons. Since launching his solo career he has produced 5 albums, including the highly regarded Whisky Hearts (also recorded in Nashville), New York Hummingbird (recorded in the Big Apple with some exceptional New York-based musicians) and Cash Back (Songs I Learned From Johnny) album, inspired by one of his lifelong idols, Johnny Cash.
I'm With Her, the band of Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O'Donovan, have announced the release of their full-length debut, 'See You Around', out February 16, 2018. 'See You Around', the title track from the album, is available everywhere today. Co-produced by Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Laura Marling, Paul McCartney) and the band and recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Bath, England, 'See You Around' is a 12 track LP filled with finespun narratives and breathtaking harmonies – full track listing is below. Additionally, I’m With Her has announced an international headlining tour that will kick off in March 2018 and bring the band to major cities across the world including Los Angeles, Paris, London, and more.
'See You Around' presents a warmly textured, yet stripped-down sound layered with lush guitar tones and crystalline harmonies. The album is comprised of 11 originals, penned by the band in Los Angeles and Vermont, plus the never before released Gillian Welch-penned 'Hundred Miles'. With each member playing guitar and handling various aspects of the instrumentation— including fiddle and ukulele for Watkins, mandolin and banjo for Jarosz, piano and synth for O’Donovan—the band cut most of the album live, performing just a few feet away from each other in the tracking room. All through 'See You Around', I’m With Her exhibits a refined musicality that reflects their deep musical roots.
After years of crossing paths in their intersecting scenes, I’m With Her came together by happenstance for an off-the-cuff performance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival during the summer of 2014.The multi-Grammy-Award-winners have individually released nine solo efforts, co-founded two seminal bands (Nickel Creek and Crooked Still), and contributed to critically acclaimed albums from a host of esteemed artists. The band has garnered tremendous acclaim for their unique blend of instrumental interplay and indelible harmonies.
"We all feel immensely fortunate to be in this band together,” says I’m With Her. “As longtime friends and fans of each other’s music, it’s been wonderful to realise that writing and collaborating together fits so seamlessly into our lives. And now, we’re so excited to get to tour and share the work we’ve done as a band with our debut album, 'See You Around'."
'Undersong' is the new album from Scottish folk trio Salt House. Produced by folk scene heavyweight Andy Bell (Martin Simpson, Songs of Separation, Furrow Collective), the album instills a special sense of place, recorded in a restored Telford Church on the island of Berneray, Outer Hebrides.
Whether its setting old words to new melodies, re-working ancient ballads or writing their own - Salt House marry all their musical strands with a deep understanding for the British song tradition and an empathy for a story. Recent recruit, singer-songwriter Jenny Sturgeon joins multi-instrumentalist and songsmith Ewan MacPherson and violist and fiddler Lauren MacColl to weave stories of landscape, place and time.
There’s no doubt that 2017 has been a whirlwind year for folk-Americana group The Wandering Hearts. Having released their first EP Burning Bridges in November, and with a string of high profile performances under their belt, The Wandering Hearts are now kicking off 2018 with their debut album Wild Silence, out on Decca Records on 9 February 2018.
Wild Silence promises to be a thrilling debut album from the quartet. With their seamless vocal harmonies, The Wandering Hearts are reminiscent of First Aid Kit and Of Monsters and Men, whilst channelling Fleetwood Mac’s pop sensibility and the storytelling of Chris Stapleton, all the while keeping their British roots at their heart. Band members AJ, Chess, Tim and Tara are all grafters – working hard to hone their skills as musicians and songwriters, and the standard is there to be seen. Their debut album showcases the band’s knack for telling heartfelt stories through their lyrics, and is a perfect balance of catchy, up-tempo numbers, such as ‘Fire & Water’ and ’Rattle’, and flawless harmony-led ballads, such as ‘If I Fall’ and ‘Laid In The Ground’, for which the band have become renowned. The album features previous releases ‘Wish I Could’, ‘Devil’ and ‘Burning Bridges’ which have become rapturously received favourites during the band’s live shows this year.
