Our LCM featured track today is the fun new single by New York based Lawrence. The heart of the band are brother and sister Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, who have been writing songs and listening to countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records since they were little kids. After years of playing together, they officially created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band comprised of musician friends from childhood and college.

The band has since gained a devoted following for its high-energy, keyboard-driven sound, which features tight, energetic horns, explosive lead vocals, and fully-live arrangements.

In June 2019, Lawrence became the first band to sign with ‘Beautiful Mind Records’, the label of Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/artist Jon Bellion. In the weeks following the signing, they released the Bellion-produced single “Casualty,” and embarked as support on Bellion’s Summer 2019 Glory Sound Prep Tour.

The signing followed the release of Lawrence’s sophomore album, ‘Living Room’. Upon its release in September of 2018, Living Room promptly reached #2 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, earned a featured placement on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist, and led the band to its late-night television debut on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. The album ranges from R&B/funk feel-good pop songs to soulful and cinematic ballads. ‘Living Room’ chronicles the trials and tribulations of growing up, including break-ups, make-ups, a family loss, and the attempt to find harmony between excitement, anxiety, melancholy, and empowerment. Sonically, the album combines elements of Lawrence’s old and new influences by mixing live with electronic, analog with digital, and meticulousness with spontaneity.

In addition to the band, Clyde and Gracie have also amassed considerable resumes with other artistic pursuits. Clyde has written songs and score for film and television, including Miss Congeniality (2000), Music and Lyrics (2007), The Rewrite (2015), Landline (2017), and the forthcoming Disney film Noelle (2019). Gracie is an accomplished actress, appearing as a series regular alongside John Caroll Lynch, Leslie Odom Jr., and Sturgill Simpson in the CBS All-Access murder mystery One Dollar. Gracie has also appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs (2009), in films such as The Sitter (2011) and Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009), and in tv shows including The Good Wife (2012), The Americans (2014), and Younger (2015).

Blanco White - Desert Days

LCM Song Of Day: ‘Desert Days’ - Blanco White

Josh is one of our favourite London singer-songwriters. We love his blend of folk, roots and pop with a rich South American flavour. ‘Desert Days’ is his ethereal latest single. Blanco White will be headlining the wonderful Union Chapel on April 24th and it’s one not to miss. His fantastic forthcoming debut album ‘On The Other Side’ is due for release on April 3rd.

Blanco White started as the solo project of Londoner Josh Edwards in 2014. After studying guitar in Cádiz (Spain), and later the Andean instrument the charango in Sucre (Bolivia), Edwards’ aim was to begin bringing together elements of Andalusian and Latin American music alongside influences closer to home.

Between 2016 and 2017, signed to London based indie Yucatan, Blanco White released his first two EPs ‘The Wind Rose’ EP and ‘Colder Heavens’ EP. By 2018 and with the release of his third ‘Nocturne’ EP, Blanco White was selling out shows from Europe to the States, where he is currently on his third tour which will take him up to Christmas.

With every release Blanco White has gone up a gear, from the haunting acoustic sound of 2016’s The Wind Rose EP to the meatier, more expansive recent single On The Other Side, the first taste of his nearly-completed, self-produced debut album. The second, Papillon, released in September, turns the intensity up with Josh’s most mesmerising vocal to date delivering his trademark poetic lyrics.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Angel With Tattoos’ - Skylar Grey

Taken from her forthcoming concept album, ‘Angel With Tattoos’ is the wonderful title track from Wisconsin born Skyler Grey.

Skylar Grey is a five-time GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is responsible for co-writing some of the most memorable songs of the past couple years. Ironically, while spending time away from the music industry and living in a cabin in the woods, she penned Eminem’s/Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” which became one of the biggest songs of their careers. This lead to Grey writing Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor,” which she performed alongside Dre and Eminem at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards ceremony, Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said,” T.I.’s “Castle Walls” and most recently, Kaskade’s “Room For Happiness” (she wrote and sang on two versions of the song, which became the album's third single). Her work has lit up the Billboard Hot 100 and iTunes sales charts, totaling more than 15 million singles sold globally.

Skylar was born and raised in a tiny village in Wisconsin, and she has been performing since the age of 6. She left home as a teenager to pursue a career in music. Aside from having one of the most heart-rending voices in music, she plays nearly a dozen instruments including piano and guitar, and is also an engineer and producer.

Earlier in 2012, she released “The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey,” an EP that includes her performing stripped-down versions of some of her smash hits. Currently, she is preparing to release her debut full-length solo album DON'T LOOK DOWN, which was released on July 9, 2013, and features several guest appearances. With her ability to cross multiple genres seamlessly, we never know what to expect from this versatile songstress.

Mae Muller - Anticlimax

Filmed in an East London Fish and Chip shop this is a stripped and acoustic version of London based Mae’s hit song ‘Anticlimax’. Both fun and biting this relationship song has real Lily Allen and Amy Whitehouse vibes. Mae’s debut album ‘Chapter 1’ was released in April.

Mae is currently on tour supporting Little Mix (O2 Greenwich November 21st) plus she is also planning a UK headline tour in February, with her London date at Heaven on February 13th.

LP - Lost On You

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Lost On You’ -LP

Long Island-born singer-songwriter Laura Pergolizzi is better known professionally as LP. She has currently released five albums and three EPs. She has written songs for other artists including Cher, Rihanna, the Backstreet Boys, Leona Lewis, Mylène Farmer, and Christina Aguilera. Our LCM featured track today is her biggest hit so far which was released in 2017. Vocally LP really reminds us of Miley Cyrus.

The singer-songwriter lays all of her cards on the table every time she makes a record. The artist’s fifth full-length the aptly titled Heart To Mouth [BMG/Vagrant] stands out as her most direct statement yet. No filter, no censorship, and no bullshit.

“When I get on the mic and start doing melodies, I can feel that direct line from my heart to my mouth,” she says. “In the past, there was a city full of streets that needed my attention. Now, I feel like I have a major highway to communicate emotion from. Whether they’re sadder songs or big anthems, they all come from the same place.”

She started to pave the way for that highway on 2017’s ‘Lost On You’. Her biggest hit to date, the title track “Lost On You,” eclipsed 500 million-plus streams and went platinum in Russia, Poland, Greece, Switzerland, Italy, France, and more. The total view tally on the videos for “Lost On You,” “Muddy Waters,” and “When We’re High” surpassed 280 million within a year as Billboard, Paper, Out Magazine, V Magazine, Interview, British Vogue, and more sang her praises. In addition to show-stopping performances everywhere from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Show with James Corden to Conan and Jools Holland, she graced the stage at Coachella, Osheaga, Outside Lands, and Mad Cool.

Drawing on hard-earned confidence and leveraging a position as an independent shot-caller, she began collecting ideas for this latest album as early as 2017, working hand-in-hand with ‘Lost On You’ collaborator and producer Mike Del Rio [Eminem, X Ambassadors, Skylar Grey] and writer Nathaniel Campany.

“I learned a lot over the years as far as what I want for myself, what I want to say, what I want to convey to people, and what I want to perform,” she continues. “I can finally portray who I want to portray and how. It all stems from freedom in my work. I don’t have to ask anybody for permission. I could be myself, and I really had some shit I wanted to say. None of us go through life unscathed, but at least you can write about it.”

And write about it, she did. ‘Heart To Mouth’ is the sound of an artist incapable of holding back. Instead, she speaks candidly on love, lust, fear, insecurity, infidelity, regret, and redemption. The effervescent garage-y dancefloor grind of first single and opener “Girls Go Wild” fittingly introduces her as “the outlaw of outside.” Meanwhile, the chilling piano chords of follow-up “Recovery” underscore the pain of a cheating lover as the chorus echoes raw pain and power with the admission, “I’m in recovery.”

“Ironically, I wrote it from my ex’s perspective of being cheated on, and then I was in the same position myself not too long after,” admits LP. “The feeling just sucks. You never truly get it until you’re on both sides. It sucks breaking somebody’s heart, but it sucks even more being heartbroken.”

Elsewhere on the album, she pins a “haunted feeling” to soulful vocal fireworks on “Die For Your Love.” The delicately plucked guitar and hushed vocals of “One Night In The Sun” depict a relationship on its sad last legs from a longing, poetic perspective. Another standout, “Dreamer” hinges on a shadowy blues croon as she relays frustrations with “a lover who has big dreams but won’t put any of the scaffolding to uphold that dream.”

“I can go the whole gamut of emotions in one day,” she says. “I’ve learned how to explain myself more succinctly with fewer words. That was the goal. There’s no cloying.”. In the end, LP lets it all out, and the results feel damn good.

“I’m lucky to have an audience that gets it,” she leaves off. “They can see and hear I went through a lot of shit to get to this point and appreciate it, because we all go through that from the cradle to the grave. I’m just here to sing about it. If you like it, great, because I love it..

Ella Henderson - Glorious

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Glorious’ - Ella Henderson

We love this wonderful and reflective live version of ‘Glorious’ by the award-winning London based singer-songwriter Ella. The video was filmed at the Asylum Chapel. It’s the title track of Ella’s new EP set for release on November 8th.

Ella will be launching the EP with her band at a special gig at Hoxton Hall in #London on November 8th.

Gabriella Michelle Henderson in 2012 was a contestant in the ninth series of The X Factor and finished in sixth place, despite being a strong favourite to win.

Ella was born and raised in Tetney, Lincolnshire on 12 January 1996, the daughter of a Scottish father, Sean, and an English mother of Swedish ancestry, Michelle. She has two brothers named Patrick and Fraser, and a sister named Holly. Ella developed a keen interest in fashion in her youth, notably vintage fashion, which she retains.

Ella began singing around the age of three and taught herself to play the piano a few years later. She began to put on shows for her family at Christmas and developed a special bond with her grandfather Bill, who encouraged her to pursue her love of music and songwriting. Her interest developed further at primary school, Humberston C of E Primary School in Grimsby, and she subsequently decided to audition for a scholarship place at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in Hertfordshire.

The wonderful and ethereal ‘Ocean Eyes’ is taken from Billie’s debut album ‘‘Don’t Smile At Me’ released in 2017. It’s also the debut song from then 14-year-old Billie Eilish. She posted the song on SoundCloud, where it organically went viral, generating over a million plays.

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, known professionally as Billie Eilish, is an American singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles, she began singing at a young age.

With an appetite for the gliding, glassy indie-pop of artists like Aurora and Lana Del Rey and the Distorted Menace of Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, Billie listens to music the way that most watch movies, entirely undefined by genre. LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Fallen Angel’ - The Kondoors

Our LCM featured track today is the latest single and title track from powerhouse singer-songwriters Jessica Greenfield and Gavin Conder, better known as The Kondoors. We love their perfect blend of Soul, RnB and Pop. They will be launching their latest EP ‘Fallen Angel’ at St.Pancas Old Church on the 25th September and there are a few tickets left if you would like to come along. Their special guests are the excellent Joe Slater and Ross Harris.

Jess Greenfield and Gavin Conder, The Kondoors, became a couple well before they became a duo. Indeed it wasn’t until they joined forces with producer Steve Brown (Rumer- Seasons of my Soul/Laura Mvula- Sing to the Moon) that their unique sound began to take shape.

The pair had long been writing and recording their own material drawing on a host of influences from Sam Cooke, Paolo Nutini and Marvin Gaye to Dusty Springfield and Tina Turner, but it was only when they decided to record Jess’ song, 'Forgiveness', that they discovered the spine-tingling effect of their voices combined. Inspired by the ups and downs of their own relationship, it takes their raw, organic feel to the next level.

Both Jess and Gavin have already established themselves as must-see live performers, with Jess being a member of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, they have supported and worked with a roll call of big names including Paul Weller, Bryan Adams, E Street band’s Steve Van Zandt, Dire Straits’ John Illsley, Sam Smith, Rod Stewart, Rudimental, Imelda May and Take That. They have been heard on Radio 2, Radio 6 Music and across local radio and in 2015 aced it at Andy Murray's wedding. Their social media profile has seen them rack up over 100,000 views in only three days of their UK garage/acoustic video while similarly impressive figures have accompanied their Sky TV appearance and other songs.

Although a crowdfunding campaign is about to be launched for the vinyl release, the costs of the EP were supplied from their own wedding gifts. Having recently married they decided to use the money given to them to invest in both the EP and the forthcoming recording of their debut album at Monnow Valley studios in Monmouthshire.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Doin’ Time’ - Lana Del Rey

We love the retro feel of Lana’s new single ‘Doin’ Time’ from her brand new album ‘Norman F*cking Rockwell’ recently released on August 29th. The track is a cover of ‘Doin’ Time’ a 1997 hit for ska punk band Sublime and includes the George Gershwin classic ‘Summertime’.

The song themes two distinctly-different topics. The chorus centers on the singer and her bandmates trying to make the ‘party jump’ in LBC (Long Beach, California) during the hot summer. While the verses center on the unfaithfulness of the singer’s girlfriend. She depicts her girlfriend as someone who is “evil…… most definitely”.

“Doin’ Time”, is a phrase associated with serving a prison sentence. She is in love with a partner whose cheating ways are driving her crazy.. She therefore feels stuck in prison because of her unfaithful, cold partner. However, despite all that, she still finds a reason to party.

Our featured track today is the wonderful first single from Katie’s forthcoming debut EP ‘Coming Home At Dawn’ which is set for digital release on November 1st. Katie is a 17 year old singer-songwriter based in Kent. She has sung for Ricky Martin and 50Cent. Most recently she has done a set at The Bedford in Bahlam as well as a set at The Big Day Out with Diversity and Louisa Johnson. Katie also opened our LCM 5th anniversary show.

Katie’s tracks 'Kaleidoscope' and 'T-Shirt' have been recognised in international and national song writing competitions and both have enjoyed significant National and International radio play. Our LCM featured track today is the beautifully written, very personal and reflective ‘Soon You’ll Get Better’ by Taylor Swift. It also features the excellent Dixie Chick who add wonderful harmonies. The track is taken from Taylor’s brand new recently released album ‘Lover’. The song is about Taylor watching her parents and especially her mom battle cancer.

During her YouTube Live Taylor revealed it was the hardest song to write. She said, "There’s a song called 'Soon You’ll Get Better' that was really, really hard to write. and it was a family decision to even put on the album, and I think songs like that that are really hard for you to write emotionally, maybe they’re hard to write and hard to sing because they’re really true. We as a family decided to put this on the album. It’s something I’m so proud of. I can’t sing it. It’s hard to emotionally deal with that song. You’ll understand what I mean in a couple of hours."

The song reveals the small details of Taylor’s experience ("The buttons of my coat were tangled in my hair / In doctor's office lighting, I didn't tell you I was scared") and how she's been coping ("Holy orange bottles, each night I pray to you / Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too").

Our LCM featured track today is the latest high energy new single from fast-rising Glasgow based singer-songwriter Kerri Watt. It reminds us of Adele meets Lana Del Ray.

Kerri is best known for bewitching country-pop songs that have made her a festival staple and a favourite on Radio 2 and seen her guest on multiple TV programmes and host her own Americana radio show, the straight-talking Scot has also opened for Coldplay, collaborated with Embrace, had a chart-topping dance hit and starred alongside Marti Pellow in a musical.

Brought up in Glasgow by a dad who played for Celtic and a mum who ferried her to endless music, dance and drama classes, Kerri grew up certain she should be on stage. At 16, she won a scholarship to a music high school in California, by 18 she was on a West End stage and at 20, discovered that her first love was writing songs and set about becoming a solo singer/songwriter.
