LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Both Sides Now’ - Zoe Wren

We have something very special for you today. We are excited to premiere this fantastic first track from the forthcoming EP ‘Inspired’ by Zoe Wren. The new EP is out on 4th July via Folkstock Records, with the launch gig planned at Camden Chapel in London. The single is one of two tracks, the other being ‘Let No Man Steal Your Thyme’, which are coming out on 14th June as a general release on all platforms.

We love this wonderful cover of a Joni Mitchell classic. The new EP features six tracks by female singer songwriters who have been a very important inspiration for Zoe. It includes fantastic covers originally by Tracy Chapman (Talking ‘Bout a Revolution), Lady Gaga (Joanne), Kate Bush (The Man With The Child In His Eyes), Sandy Denny (Who Knows Where The Time Goes) and the traditional ‘Let No Man Steal Your Thyme’.

It is always our great pleasure to support Zoe and her music as we have since 2013. Zoe was also our LCM ‘Favourite New Artist’ in 2018, as voted by members of our group.

‘Since her beginnings as a busker in Camden, Zoe has gone on to perform on stages from Cambridge Folk Festival to Glasgow Celtic Connections, and 100 Wardour Street to The Shard. She is a winner of the PRS Lynsey de Paul Award, and has had airplay on BBC Radio 2 on the Bob Harris show. Drawing on influences from the unorthodox harmonies of Joni Mitchell to the honest storytelling of Tracy Chapman, and mixing these with cinematic pedal effects, Zoe is creating a sound that Fatea Magazine has called 'refreshingly bold. She has worked with Folkstock since it started in 2013'.

The new EP can be pre-ordered below >>>

You draw me in and wash me out until I can't find home. And when I call, in the silence lies a reply. The echo falls again and again the burden multiplies. It’s in the stillness, it’s in our breathing in, And in the stillness, it’s in our breathing out We are without. In the cold, in the dark, in the night, my love, We learn to fight, my love, To make it light, my love. When I’m caught in the dark of your night, my love, I can’t see right, my love, Please let go. Please let go. Some are born to sweet delight, Some are born to endless night. High on a rooftop, I felt the sun rise from a darkened cry. And from my tightrope I saw the smoke rise as I felt goodbye. And no-one called: in the silence the race was won. As we unfold, it’s not in the storms that we become undone, It’s in the stillness, it’s in our breathing in, And in the stillness, it’s in our breathing out We are without. In the cold, in the dark, in the night, my love, We learn to fight, my love, To make it light, my love. When I’m caught in the dark of your night, my love, I can’t see right, my love, Please let go.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Caught In The Dark’ - Cerian

Our featured track today is the wonderful latest single from London based singer-songwriter and LCM favourite Cerian. It’s dreamlike, ethereal and very cinematic. This is a very personal song to Cerian, themed about her own struggle with the darkness. It’s also the title track and central point around which Cerian’s high anticipated upcoming EP is based. We think Cerian is very special and one of our LCM 'Ones to watch' in 2019.

You can catch Cerian live as part of the HEARD collective at The Green Note on 17th April or in Covent Garden on 28th April. Cerian also performers solo when she joins Roxannne de Bastion for a fantastic double header at St. John’s Church, Hoxton on the 18th May.
